Elon Musk – Ashlee Vance
Book - Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance
Background -
My brother and father to my niece and nephew is an engineer. Throughout my life I've always admired his curiosity for questioning the why in every day things. The ability to explore seemingly normal items and life events consistently allows him to better understand the world around him and make better life choices for his partner and children.
The book -
Elon Musk and his brother dropped out of university to rent an office in silicon Valley where they created X.Com (now Paypal). He and his brother would sleep on the ground in the office, shower in a local gym down the road and work close to 20 hours a day until they were able to market their idea and survive the dot com crash. This then lead to a billion dollar sale of PayPal. From there Elon continued to look for opportunities where others did not, create Tesla, Space X, the Boring Company and Nueralink.
He did this by looking at the world around him not as it was but how it could be. His brother would go on to support Tesla, owning 600,000 shares by also having an unwaivering curiosity about the potentiality of everything. Ashlee Vance doesn't truly capture the bond of these two brothers however the book does give a glimpse of their team work and attribute of not accepting things as they are.
Result -
I wanted to say happy fathers day to everyone but also my brother for supporting me. Curiosity holds the key to innovation and creativity, if you aren't looking you will always miss opportunity. Look around you. Notice the trees, the chair, the bed, the coffee cup, the wind.
If you are always curious you will never be bored. Life is full of secrets ready to be seen, never stop looking, never stop being curious.
Happy Father's Day
